Applications Open for Contemplative Research and Social Transformation Award 

$2,000 for the 2020-2021 academic year 

 

This award is presented to graduate students at the University of Arizona who demonstrate: 

  • Interest in public engagement and social transformation 

  • Commitment to research relevant to contemplative practices 

  • Commitment to cross-disciplinary service and scholarship at the University of Arizona 

The award will entail: 

  • Formal recognition by the Center for Compassion Studies and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences 

  • $2,000, awarded in Fall and Spring contributions of $1,000 each 

  • Inclusion in a network of contemplative science scholars at different career stages, with mentorship for grant-writing and research available 

Awardees will: 

  • Be a graduate student in good standing who will be enrolled at UArizona for the 2020-2021 academic year 

  • Propose a specific plan to carry forward a feasible project to meet one or more of the following aims: 

1)Promote dialogue about the integration of science and contemplative practices at UArizona or beyond 
2) Apply a contemplative science perspective in the promotion of social justice and equity in a local, regional, national or global context 
3) Facilitate arts and sciences scholarship in contemplative science 
4) Enhance scholarly understanding of contemplative practices found throughout the world 
5) Create a venue for collaboration between scientists, scholars, and contemplative experts at UArizona and the Tucson community 
6) Contribute to sustainable efforts to engage and maintain collaborative dialogue in contemplative science at UArizona

  • Graduate transcript (for entering graduate students, an undergraduate transcript if < 2yrs. old) 

  • One faculty letter of recommendation, preferably from academic advisor
